August 14 and 15, 2026. Kannai, Yokohama.
Introducing the players to watch at SANSIAS presents Yokohama 14-1 Summit.
He was two points short of 100.
He had built it up to 98.
On the next break, it ended.
That one shot is still with him.
Atsushi Inami.
A JPBA pro based at Lupin Kinshicho.
In his eleventh year of 14.1.
High run: 98.
He has come within two points.
I asked why he keeps playing 14.1.
“Because I love it.”
That was all.
We asked him to sum up 14.1, straight pool, in a single word.
“Simple is the game.”
Pocket one, score one.
Again, and again.
Simple, and so deep.
Simple, and so hard.
The hardest part, he says, is the break, and concentration.
A pro who has run 98 still calls the break hard.
The night he built it to 98, the break ended it.
Even so, he goes back to the high run challenge.
“This is why I keep going.”
His answer was the high run challenge.
His strength: “tenacity.”
What matters in practice: “studying the technical and the physical.”
His goal: a high run over 100.
Two more points.
But those two points are far away.
So tomorrow, he picks up the cue again.
I asked how he felt going into the Summit.
“I want to enjoy it.”
Inami also played in “Yokohama Open 2026,” the very first event the Yokohama Open Organizing Committee launched.
Win or lose.
He comes back to this place, again.
He has entered the committee’s events one after another.
Whatever the result, he keeps coming back.
“I want to enjoy it” is what a man like that says.
And a word for anyone who wants to take up 14.1.
“It lets you face billiards, and yourself.”
The words of someone who plays because he loves it are quiet, and straight.
