Over two days, Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23, Yokohama will host Round 3 of the All Japan Ladies Pro Tour, the “Linea LADIES TOURNAMENT GII.”

9-ball, race to 7, alternating breaks.

Players who have entered, pro and amateur alike, will clash in Yokohama over two days.

Held at two venues

Qualifying on Saturday, August 22, runs at two venues at once: POOL LABO and MECCA Yokohama.

The finals, on Sunday, August 23, gather at POOL LABO from the Best 16.

Admission is ¥2,000 for either a one-day ticket or a two-day pass.

With a two-day pass, you can even move back and forth between the two venues on qualifying day.

Watch a match that catches your eye at POOL LABO, then head over to MECCA Yokohama to catch another — two days you can enjoy that way, too.

The warm-up had already begun

In fact, ahead of the main event, a warm-up tournament was held on August 16.

“LADIES TOURNAMENT in POOL LABO”.

Eight pros and eight amateurs, sixteen players in all, took part.

The format: a qualifying round-robin in four groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to a knockout final stage.

It was also a chance for the players to check, in person, the table conditions at POOL LABO, which is a qualifying venue for the main event as well.

The winner was Yuki Hiraguchi.

You can watch this warm-up as a stream archive on the Yokohama Open official YouTube channel.

What kind of play did the players show before the main event? Please take a look.

This weekend, come to Yokohama

Chances to watch the All Japan Ladies Pro Tour in Yokohama don’t come along often.

For people who don’t usually watch pool, I think women’s pro matches make an easy way in.

It is a little different from the top men’s game, where power and speed can overwhelm; the judgment and planning behind each shot are easier to see.

“Why did she choose that ball?” “Why did she play safe here?” — being able to follow that flow of thought is one of the hallmarks of women’s matches.

Even if it is your first time watching pool, these should be matches where you can sense what the players are thinking.

¥2,000. Two days. Two venues.

This weekend, why not come watch professional pool in Yokohama?
