August 14 and 15, 2026. Kannai, Yokohama.
Introducing the players to watch at SANSIAS presents Yokohama 14-1 Summit.
Forty years of 14.1.
A high run of 78.
And still, the goal is 100.
Between those two numbers lie his forty years.
We asked him to sum up 14.1, straight pool, in a single word.
“A game in which the truth of billiards is distilled.”
Asked why he plays it, he answered in a word.
“It’s fun!”
That one word was the answer of a man who has played for forty years.
The hardest moment, he said:
“Building the pattern once you’ve found the break ball and the key ball.”
It is after you find them that it gets hard.
That is the depth of 14.1.
His strength:
“Shot-making, built up through years of fundamental drills.”
And at the core of his practice: “fundamentals, aiming.”
Forty years of doing the same things.
All of it adds up to the Yagi-san of today.
The shot he remembers:
“Running out a 60-point game at a study group in a single inning.”
Sixty balls, played through without a break.
He must still remember that night.
There is a place Yagi-san cannot forget.
“Tonsho,” the Barracks: a legendary billiards dojo that once stood in Kyoto.
He made it by converting his own workroom.
The one who named it was Shinji Mizutani-san, known as BOSS.
From Edo, from Hokuriku, from Nagoya, from Kyushu.
14.1 lovers from all over the country gathered there, shared good food, talked 14.1 deep into the night, and fell asleep wherever they lay.
That was the kind of place it was.
Out of that Tonsho, the 14-1 Summit was born.
The 1st: February 2015, Nagoya. 27 people.
The 2nd: September 2015, Ogikubo, Tokyo. 42 people.
The 3rd: September 2016, Oshu, Iwate.
The 4th: August 2017, Kanazawa.
The 5th: October 2018, Niigata.
The 6th: October 2019, Sanku, Kyoto. 76 people.
Each time, more people came.
That culture runs straight into this year’s Yokohama 14-1 Summit.
Among the players who shaped him, he named Lo Li-wen.
At this Summit, he will stand at the same table as Lo.
“A game in which the truth of billiards is distilled.”
Forty years of facing it, and the answer was still “It’s fun!”
Perhaps that is the truth of this game.
