August 14 and 15, 2026. Kannai, Yokohama.
Introducing the 14.1 (straight pool) study groups that send their players to SANSIAS presents Yokohama 14-1 Summit.
A night in Morioka. Saturday, six o’clock.
Four to six people gather at Billiards Buddies Club in Morioka, Iwate.
Quietly, but in earnest, they play 14.1.
It began in the most natural way.
Kazuhiro Yoshida and Suzuki, a professional, were always playing 14.1.
People who watched them began, little by little, to join in.
A curiosity—”what are they doing over there?”—made this place.
That was 2015.
We asked: 14.1, in a word?
“Art!”
We asked what he loves about it. “Creativity,” came the reply.
No layout ever comes twice.
No answer comes twice, either.
Every time, you search for a solution that is yours alone.
Perhaps that is what makes it art.
When the league matches are over, Suzuki gives a short lesson.
Where you hesitated, where things didn’t work out—the pro walks you through it, carefully.
Shot order, position—after the shot, you learn “why it should have been played that way.”
Lesson by lesson, it really does change your game.
“I’ve started paying attention to shot order and position.”
So said Yoshida.
100CLUB. The name alone tells you the view they are aiming for.
The happiest moment, Yoshida says, is setting a new high run.
One hundred is a long way off.
But each time you get one ball past who you were yesterday, that view comes a little closer.
We asked for a message to anyone curious about 14.1.
“It’s a game even a hack like me can enjoy (laughs).”
Those are the words of someone who has kept at it since 2015.
Being a hack is fine.
With creativity, 14.1 becomes art.
