Tomorrow, the draw will be announced.

Before that, let us introduce the 32 players gathering for this tournament.

From all over Japan, to Yokohama

Iwate, Toyama, Yamanashi, Chiba, Gunma, Kyoto, Osaka.

From every corner of the country, players who love 14.1 (straight pool) are coming to Yokohama.

More than a few are traveling from places too far for a day trip.

Each of them has been preparing for these two days.

The home side: Yokohama

With players coming from across the country, for the Yokohama locals this is a tournament on home ground.

Led by players from POOL LABO, many are entering from Yokohama and Kanagawa.

That may mean the pressure is all the greater.

Four pros in the field

Four JPBA pros are entering this tournament.

Lo Li-wen (JPBA/POOL LABO)
— Five-time champion of the All Japan 14.1 Open Championship. He is also the owner of this tournament’s venue, and he comes in as the man everyone is chasing.

Tomoya Iima (JPBA/DRAGON)
— Back-to-back Japan Open champion. The Kansai standout, who openly professes his love of 14.1, comes from Osaka to take on Yokohama. Can he breach Lo’s stronghold? He is one to watch.

Takeaki Matsuno (JPBA/Billiard Lesson Studio Trigger)
— More than 25 years of 14.1. He aims for the top with the experience and patterns he has built over many years.

Atsushi Inami (JPBA/Lupin Kinshicho)
— Has played every Yokohama Open. High run: 98. Goal: 100. He will take a run at that mark in this tournament.

With one pro placed in each group, every player is sure to play at least one match against a pro.

Three women in the field

Three women are entering this tournament.

Nanae Taoka (DRAGON, Osaka), Kanako Sakamoto (Zeke, Yokohama) and Yuki Sakata (MECCA Yokohama, Yokohama).

14.1 is a game that asks far more of judgment and skill than of power.

At this tournament, too, men and women will compete on the same stage.

Tomorrow, the draw is set

Which group will each of the 32 land in?

Who will end up in the same group as whom?

How will the players from afar and the locals cross paths?

The qualifiers are short races to 50.

The slightest shift in momentum can decide a match, and an upset is possible even against a pro.

Tomorrow, those opponents will be revealed too.

On August 7, we will publish the draw.

Watching is free.

Please come to the venue and see these 32 players’ battles through to the end.
