August 14 and 15, 2026. Kannai, Yokohama.
Introducing the 14.1 (straight pool) study groups that send their players to SANSIAS presents Yokohama 14-1 Summit.

The 1960s.

Kyoto’s professionals were gathered around a table.

That is how this study group began.

For a time, it fell silent.
But in 2005, it stirred again.

Twenty years have passed since.

Still, every month, on a Sunday, people gather.
As long as there are people who love this game, the place goes on.

Their home is in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto: BILLIARDS & DARTS BAR Sanku.

A proper billiard hall: pocket tables, of course, but also three-cushion—and the only snooker table in Kyoto.

There, once a month, the 14.1 people gather.

Meet at ten, first break at ten-thirty.

At this study group, you cannot fake your level.

They use a chess clock.
Forty-five minutes each.
Run out of time, and you lose.

Sixty points, seventy, eighty—a handicap system lets everyone play to their own strength.

The contest is real.

There are standings.
There is a high-run prize.

When the matches end, the data is shared.

Averages, high runs—the numbers line up.
Your whole day becomes numbers, just as it was.

They also play pairs matches, alternating shot by shot.

You choose your ball while thinking of your partner’s next one.
Your sense of position widens.

You begin to see a view you would never have noticed alone.

We asked: 14.1, in a word?

“A fascinating game with every element of billiards packed into it. It runs deep.”

We asked what they love about it.

“Luck plays less of a part than in other games.”

In other words, it is a game where your true ability shows, honestly.

We asked for a message to anyone curious about 14.1.

“Don’t overthink it. It’s perfect for practicing on your own, too.”

Words from a place handed down for more than sixty years carry weight.
